Natural ingredients we recommend:
We’ve found that cheap vodka works the best. It will dissolve essential oils into water very well, it is the safest for our kids to be around when they help us clean. Cheap vodka typically comes in large plastic bottles for around $10-$15 per liter. And when you’re done cleaning, you can make yourself a martini!
A word of caution:
- Denatured alcohol is intentionally made toxic by the addition of chemicals. This was done during prohibition to allow companies to legally continue making alcohol for industrial use. Unfortunately consumers continue to purchase denatured alcohol for use in the home.
- Isopropyl alcohol by its nature is unfit for human contact. Stay away.
Our Wood recipe calls for using a “Natural Oil” for this we use and love Olive Oil. It has been brought to our attention that olive oil can go rancid over time. While we have been cleaning with it for a long time and have never had ours go bad, it’s still a possibility.
Great alternatives to Olive Oil:
- Jojoba oil
- Coconut oil
Distilled White vinegar is the best for cleaning. Apple Cider Vinegar has wonderful health benefits but will leave a residue on glass or counter tops. Cleaning vinegar may just be water with acetic acid added, not a part of a natural fermentation process. Stick with distilled white.
